Rotarian Gus Genetti at the kickoff of the Bikeshare Program
Even on vacation, Rotarian Gus Genetti never stops thinking about what would be good for Downtown Wilkes-Barre.  In fact, it was in his travels that Genetti noticed yellow bikes that a city was loaning out to visitors for free for the day to see the community and enjoy and decided to bring that idea home to Wilkes-Barre. Today, members of the newly formed BikeShare Committee were proud to join with elected officials from the area and display the new bikes that will be available to residents and visitors to enjoy for a day, riding along the riverfront and rails-to-trails areas in the Greater Wilkes-Barre Community.

The Bike Share program is being administered through Genetti's Hotel in Wilkes-Barre.  Riders must provide a valid drivers license or state ID in order to borrow a bike for the day and must follow all bike safety
regulations while participating in the program. According to Genetti "The BikeShare Committee does the promoting, guiding the program nuts and bolts and the managing of lending and maintaining the bikes and puts the bikes on the river front and trails. The BikeShare Committee is 'Where the rubber meets the road'"

BikeShare is a project of the Rotary Club of Wilkes-Barre (of which Gus Genetti is a proud member and past president). The Luzerne Foundation provided support for the project. Maslow Lumia Bartorillo Advertising in
Wilkes-Barre created the BikeShare logo.  Founding sponsors also include, Wilkes-Barre Rotary Charities, RiverCommon.org, the Wilkes-Barre Riverfront Parks Committee, the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce, McCarthy Flowers in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne Bank, Genetti Hotel, the Downtown Business Association, Live Well Luzerne, the Wilkes-Barre YMCA, Barnes & Noble in Downtown Wilkes-Barre, the Luzerne County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the City of Wilkes-Barre, the Wilkes-Barre Business Improvement District, Penn State Wilkes-Barre, the Anthracite Newsstand, Dunkin' Donuts of Wilkes-Barre, and Around Town Bicycles.

Genetti adds, "In addition to this program being a great way to see our community, it promotes the health and wellness which is key to ourcommunity.  Putting this project together was a great team effort."

Currently 18 bicycles are available to borrow for the day.  Individuals interested in borrowing a bike should stop by Genetti's in Wilkes-Barre. Bikes are loaned out on a first come, first served basis. Companies interested in sponsoring a bike can contact 570-820-0980.
